These sculptures are made from willows or cedar, frequently accented with dyed bamboo, date stems and feathers. The branches are woven together with brass and copper, handspun and dyed wool yarns, nylons and natural ropes and twines. The banner is best hung loosely from the wall for a dimensional look.
Long, thin wall banners can be hung vertically or horizontally. They are identified by the number of willow bundles x the length of the willows. Vertical styles are constructed large end to small end as in examples A & B. Click on each banner to see a larger view.
Rectangular wall shields are constructed of blunt end horizontal willows (usually 40" in length) and are hung loosely in an accordian -like fashion on the wall. They are identified by WS for wall shield, then length of willows, dash, feet of width desired. Example D is WS 42-42. Examples E & F are special orders, made for the special spaces they occupy Standard smaller sizes are WS 38-14 and WS 40-24.
